Has anyone used this? Did you like it? Do you feel like it was helpful? I came across a sample and it looks good, but it’s going to cost me around $100 to ship levels 1 & 2 to Canada with exchange, etc. Just trying to decide if it’s worth the $$$ or not.

We used it several years ago and, while I don’t remember the specifics, I believe we liked it well enough.   I can’t say in all honesty that it developed any major writing skills or techniques or passion for writing, but the fact that it actually got my boys writing – during a time when they were very, very reluctant about anything to do with writing – to me, was enough.   I will see if I still have it and could sell to you (I am in Canada).

We did the first unit so far in level 1.  The lessons got long.  So in the future, I will use a timer for short lessons and cut the lesson content shorter (cover some examples of each of the parts of speech and not all).  Also, the answers for parts of speech in the back of the book are in alphabetical order and not in the order they first appear, making it harder to use for that lesson.  I plan to pull it out and use it a few times per year as a group lesson.  I like how they use examples of good literature to teach the concepts, and they focus on specific nouns and descriptive words.

So sorry, HSMAMA, I checked but I no longer have WWTB.  Must have sold it to someone else last time I did my clean-out!   If you happened to have been looking at Lightening Lit and Comp Grade 7 – I do have both TM and Student Workbook.  I found the level of instruction for composition in this program to be well detailed and useful; of course, there are many other programs to choose from as well!  (In the end I liked Susan Wise Bauer’s Writing with Skill and Apologia’s Jump In best of all for writing – but Lighting Lit is fantastic also in that it incorporates full novels and poems).  Good reviews of all this on Cathy Duffy’s site and good, thorough summaries of program details can also be found on Rainbow Resources.

If you want to connect on this, you could post your email here and I will contact you.

    Blessings,

    A.
