Something to read & pray about….

It’s being called the “worst-ever homeschool law” by HSLDA, and it was introduced in the Ohio Senate on December 3rd. This law, if passed, would require every family in Ohio that desires to homeschool to submit to a social services investigation, including separate interviews with the parents and the children. The social services agency would make the decision as to whether homeschooling is in the best interest of the child(ren). The proposed law is referred to as “Teddy’s Law” and is in response to the death of a 14-year old boy of whom abuse was suspected for years (and reported by his school authorities) long before he was withdrawn to be homeschooled.

You can read more about this proposed law & the abuse case that prompted it here on HSLDA’s website. Also, there is information concerning this here on the Ohioans for Educational Freedom website.

If you feel led to do so, please read more about this bill and pray about it. Even if you are not homeschooling in Ohio, such a far-reaching law could set a dangerous precedent for other states to follow.

I’m in Ohio, and that is terrifying! I had no idea this was going on. Thanks for posting it; I’m going to contact the senators right away.

I’m extra sad to note that three of the four cosponsoring senators of this law are women. I wonder if they have children.

Oh how awful! I will be praying even tho I’m many miles away.

Oh my…I will be storming the gates on this one. What a horribly invasive law. This would set a dangerous precedence for the whole country.

@Des – where is the news report or something about the withdrawal? I couldn’t find anything when I tried to see where that had happened.

Isn’t prayer amazing–and probably tons of letters. I just sent her a thank you email. We should show appreciation for any action that protects our rights.

You can read HSLDA’s e-lert that was published a few hours ago by clicking here. Senator Cafaro has sent a letter to the president of the Ohio Senate requesting that action on the bill be suspended immediately, and she has promised to officially withdraw the bill once the senate meets again next month.

Good news! To God be the glory!!!

Thanks, Sue. I was just about to post the article I found here. She says she will not include education in any other bills. So thankful that she has decided to approach this matter a little more appropriately!

We must stay vigiliant in our prayers of gratiitude for the right to homeschool and in asking God’s blessings as we strive to defend our parental rights in any form.
