I’ve been searching the bookfinder and am acquiring other resources to locate books for this time period, but I don’t want to leave this forum out…my most trusted reviewers of books 🙂

I have a 12 yo who will need additional reading for the fall….any books in this time period you would not have wanted your kiddos to miss or some you wish you could’ve read??  I’ll be considering some from the SCM mod 6 but I thought I’d ask you all anyway.  He would be comfortable with the reading level anywhere from 4-7th grade, if that helps.  Some of the 7-9th in the mod 6 list seem a little over his head (but I could be wrong) but several in the 4th-6th seem way too young for him.

Thanks in advance.  Oh, and if you could recommend a booklist resource (beside SCM, which is my fav.) that would be great too.  I’m considering purchasing All Through the Ages and TQ, eventually.

We haven’t studied this time period yet so I don’t have any personal favorites so far, but I can offer my go-to booklists.  I usually pay attention if a book is mentioned on more than 1 site.

Veritas Press, AO, SCM, Tapestry of Grace, and Sarah Clarkson’s Read for the Heart.

I have an 11ds and I try to offer books that are on his reading level, but also books that are above and below his level.  I think it helps push him in his reading while also not burning him out when he gets to read a fun lower level picture or chapter book.  So I wouldn’t necessarily avoid a book if its not exactly on your son’s reading level.  You might also consider finding some favorites on audio that would otherwise be over his head but you wouldn’t want to miss.

I’m also interested in seeing what other’s may recommend as their favorites.

Oh, yes, I totally agree about the “above and below” reading level books, thanks for the reminder.  And, yes, I have a few audio books to consider as well (he loves audio books anyway).

The reason I ask this is because he is taking a community class on American history in the fall and they will be using living books, which is perfect, but…He has enjoyed combining American and World like in Module 5 of SCM so I was wanting to gather the World history books to add in for next year.

Okay, as I type this I am thinking that I must be kind of slow….why not just use some that are listed in Mod. 6 (both 4-6th and 7-9th)??  I can’t use all of them (he’d never get through them all, but pick some and go from there 🙂  Sometimes I get stuck on having to use what is listed “as it is listed” and not picking and choosing what works best for us at the time.  (On a side note: if SCM had a guide for mod 6 we would use it and try to stick to the listed books (or at least try), but since they don’t right now I can pull from here and there.)

Thanks for the book list resources…I’ll be checking some out today 🙂
