Please let me know your opinions on any of these books I have on audio.  I don’t know if they are worth keeping even though they are Newbery Award or Honor and what ages for the audio.  I like more conservative titles.  Please let me know of any issues to watch for.  Thanks.

The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox

Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor

The Watsons Go To Birmingham – 1963 by Curtis

Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath

Getting Near to Baby by Audrey Couloumbis

    Dicey’s Song by Cynthia Voigt

Out of the Dust by Karen Hess

    Crazy Lady by Conly

Not Newbery: Open Heart, Open Home by Karen Mains

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is excellent but does deal with some tough issues.

I read Dicey’s Song when I was a kid and I think there may be some issues there. The mom abandons the kids and they have to make their way, on their own, to a distant and unknown relative. This one obviously deals with tough issues as well.

I haven’t read any of  the others. Hopefully others can help with those!

Thanks, Melanie.  I am thinking that maybe I shouldn’t keep any of these.  Any other opinions?
