I am attending our homeschool conference here in MN tomorrow and wondering while I’m there looking to buy some used books what would you suggest. I mean if you were going to buy books to read as a family which ones do you have or wish you had for your shelves?

My boys are 10 and under.

    Thanks

    Misty,

I am in a spring cleaning fever and I was thinking about books in general. Dare I say that I think we have too many? Considering the times we are living in and that so many of what we have I can get at the library quite easily, I have decided that in the future (in general, obviously…not making any laws around here) I will be purchasing books that will build their faith in Jesus. Perhaps I should consider a grammar book as well, after that last sentence! 😉

    Blessings,

    Cindy

I’m so jealous. We are never in MN when they have their conventions. 🙁

Right now I can’t think of anything that my boys love that isn’t twaddle. 🙂 Right now they are really into comics (Peanuts)..again.

I know this is late but just for future reference. Henty and Lamplighters would be great options, especially with boys.

Misty, did you find some good books? How did the conference go?

Yes I did find a couple, with some help of bystanders. 😀

The conference was great as usually with more vendors than ever. The reason I was there though was because I was talking at one of the workshops on vaccines and what they have done to my family. This was the 1st time I have even talked in front of hunders of people and though WAY ouy of my comfort zone it was good and and a great experience.

I got 3 books the only 2 I can think of are Cricket, and Prudence and the Millers.

    Thanks

Misty, what an opportunity! I’m glad it went well and praise God for your courage to speak on such a sensitive issue. Do you mean how vaccines have affected your family negatively? This topic is of great interest to our family as well; I wish I could have been there to hear you speak. 🙂

    Misty,

I’m with Heather, I wish I was there to hear you speak. And this topic is of great interest to our family as well. I have several friends who do not vaccinate and I know just enough to be concerned but not enough to make a well-informed decision. I would love to hear your story.

Yes it was an awesome opportunity. Also, yes on how it impacted my family negatively.

Boy, I’m so glad you want to be well informed. I wasn’t and it is the worse mistake we have ever made for our family. Now I am VERY informed and know enough how to stand up to drs who insist or others who want to tell me how bad it is to not vacinate. To the point even with my own mom (being very carefull of course, for we are to honor our parents) who is a nurse and thinks that shots are a must.

I would love to tell you more anytime. Just let me know.

Misty, would you mind sharing your story? I have 3 daughters and the two older ages 6 and 4 have all their vaccines up to date but my youngest 20 mos hasn’t had her MMR yet and won’t until 2 yr old. It worries me there is even the slightest link to autism with the MMR or too many vaccines at once for our children. So I delayed that one. And I refuse the unnecessary ones (hepatitis B or whatever one for traveling out of the country since we aren’t traveling that far). I won’t let them give her more than 3 shots a visit. I know my first 2 daughters did fine with the vaccines but they seem to add more each year and now I DO know more and want to be wise. 😉 Fortunately our pediatrician is very supportive on delaying. She does state concern for waiting too long but will wait.

Anyway I’d like to read your story if you don’t mind sharing.

    Thanks,

    Tara

Oh Yes, Misty, do share! We’d love to hear your story and the cause that you stand for. Maybe you could start a new thread with the topic of vaccines. Looking forward to hearing you share…..

I’m interested too! Our midwife did her Naturopathic PhD thesis on vaccinations and she was a wealth of information to us when our children were babies. Our middle child is on the autism spectrum (for us it is definitely genetic from my husband’s side) and this is a subject which is quite close to our hearts. I’d love to hear your story!
