Just wanted to share what my son said while doing copywork. He was copying a quote that we had downloaded from an e-book. He said, “Mom, read this.” So I read it out loud. I didn’t understand what he was getting at. And then he pointed out, “Isn’t there supposed to be a comma here?” I said, “You are right! Wow, you figured that out by yourself! They left it out!”  I was amazed and proud! My son just turned 8! We started copywork last year. He also reads a lot! I wondered how spelling and grammar was going to be taught through these ways! His spelling has improved also as well as the words he chooses to speak!

Just thought I share! It was exciting to see! 🙂

Thank you for sharing! I am starting first grade with my oldest dd and I wonder the same things (will she really learn what she needs to by just reading and doing copywork?)  It is always encouraging to hear real-life success stories!

That is great and it shows how we worry for no reason when we see these things happen.  Sometimes something seems too simple to work, but this method does work and it works effortlessly compared to some methods.  Enjoy the journey.
