@sheraz: Will the HH Young Readers guide give tips on ordering the 86 books somewhat chronologically? And, how old is too old to participate in reading independently and listening to some of these books read aloud, in your opinion? The children I have who would be participating in this history are 10 (4th grade) and 8 (2nd grade) and a 5.5yo tagging along. I envision reading these aloud and assigning some of them over a couple of years … but perhaps that is a stretch for my two older children?

Erin.kate, I don’t think the ages you have listed are to old for the YRC books. My 11yo will be reading some of them this year, the language is so rich in these books. Are your kiddos avid readers? I think that might help with what is recommended.

Thanks, Des. Yes, both of my girls are very good readers and they’ve been raised on AO and SCM. Thank you!

Des, I’m curious to hear if you ended up primarily sticking with these e-collections over the past year (?) and how all that went. We another imminent out-of-state move, I’m debating with myself about letting go of more (heavy!) boxes of books. It’s so hard! We already have a number of HH and YC resources, but I haven’t really embraced them as our primary curriculum and am pondering.

I’d love to hear about your experiences! 🙂

@Erin – In reading the lists on the back, I think that you can easily put the books in chronological order. If you aren’t sure a quick google question would tell you where that event fit.

We have used these collections exclusively this year for history (Ancient Greece – from both YC and HH) and I loved it. It wasn’t a problem at all to not have the physical book. In fact, I am excited to move other subjects to the kids’ Kindles as well. It was so economical, too. Each of us have the family books as well as individual reading books on them, saving me TONS of money and space, as well as making it easier for them to follow the our guide and stay focused during histroy.

MLiP yes we did primarily use these books and it went fine. We read bits and pieces of certain books mostly done as a read aloud. This year I do plan to be more intentional about independent reading than I’ve been in previous years. We did use several free audible books and audio books from the library as well. Hath!

If anyone wants to purchase any of the Hertiage History CDs, I posted a few for sale last week on the homeschool classifieds site. I’m just not a tablet person so I’ve decided to find a new home for them. Here is a link to my for sale page incase anyone is intersted (I have a few SCM module books there too) ~ http://homeschoolclassifieds.com/show_list.asp?user=noboty&email=

Thanks, Sheraz. I have a Paperwhite and coincidentally my mother sent us a surprise Fire HD7 today, so I bought the Young Readers collection. I think I may take a breather from AO history and just read to my crew this year, while focusing on the rest of AO.

I already have YC. I keep forgetting about having bought the collection. I was thinking about trying to get on track with a more focused CM approach, & it suddenly dawned on me I probably had many books already at my disposal through the YC collection 🙂 Anyway, DD 8yo reads well so I’m wantingto be sure to get her on track reading quality books independently not just listening during read-alouds. So, is there a good way to determine what books from YC to do as read-alouds vs independent reading? I see age recommendations but just not sure otherwise how to divide up.
