TT too much computer? CLE too boring?

I am leaving MUS and have narrowed down my math choices to TT and CLE. My kids are 9 (auditory), 8 (visual) and 6 (kinesthetic).

I like the idea of TT because it’s entertaining to a certain extent and provides lots of teacher support (esp important for the higher grades) but I appreciate the simplicity of CLE and the more ‘traditional’ approach to teaching math (also, the fact that metric/US are taught together).

I’m concerned that TT will lead to too much time on the computer, although the fact that the kids will look forward to math is a plus. On the flip side, I’m concerned that CLE will be too ‘boring’ (visually speaking). I really do not want to switch again. Oh, and I’m aware that the 6 year old won’t be able to use TT for a few years. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks so much!

We love CLE math.  My girls (I only have daughters) are enjoying it – and they don’t complain about it being boring.  There are a variety of math problems given each day – story problems, graphs/charts, normal math equations, number lines, filling in the missing number (a pre-cursor to division / subtraction), etc.

They sometimes complain about math just because it’s math….or because it’s “school”….or just because they’re children!

I specifically chose CLE because the pages were so calm compared to Horizons Math.

We used TT for several years and I appreciated that the lesson was taught by the program.  That was my main reason for using it.  If you want to reduce the computer time you can have the watch the lesson and then do the problems in the book.  You would miss out on the computer benefit of the program that checks the probems as they go.

Some things to consider – cost (TT is expensive), teaching (it teaches for you), time on computer (30 minutes per day – plus or minus depending on how focused they are).

We started CLE this year for two fourth graders and a third grader. None of them said it was boring although occasionally they say they hate math, but I don’t let it bother me as I hate math some days too! They like it better than what we were doing before (MCP) so I count that as a plus.

I know this is an older thread, but just in case others are searching/wondering.

I started both girls on CLE Math. Then I switched my eldest to TT mainly because I wanted to try it. She loved it but actually missed and preferred me teaching her CLE Math, even though she does it independently unless she has a question.

So we will be continuing with CLE math through the 500 level and then moving to TT Pre-Algebra. With CLE math my girls prefer flash cards to the speed drills. Sometimes they do speed drills but not always.
