I am looking at both truth quest and SCM for history. I like how Truth Quest looks at history through God’s eyes. Does SCM do the same?  I am looking for a comparison? And even a comparison of starting with American history vs. ancient for the younger grades. My children are 9,8,5,3,1.  We have done quite a bit of American history. But they have had a lot of Bible, and have a pretty good start in ancient history because of that.

    Thank you!

I think SCM is easier to use. The first 3 modules are very Bible based. The K-3 group reads the Bible and a spine with 1-2 novels a year. The Greek spine has a good bit of mythology in it, but it would be very easy to skip and not replace. (The Roman one may too). Sonya’s passion is Bible intertwined with ancient history. I think its good for my kids to see the Bible as history right away. My sister and  I got really turned off of American history in public school when that’s all we learned K-4…

I love the geography that’s scheduled though I am not writing in the book and instead bought a geo puzzle for my small ones.

SCM gives you a schedule and TQ does not.  TQ gives you a topic, gives you a list of books to go along with that topic and then it’s up to you to choose what you want to read and how much you want to cover in that particular topic.   The author includes commentary on many of the topics, but not all.  If you like a more relaxed approach and like to do your own planning, TQ is great.  At times, I really like someone else to be giving me a schedule and at times I’ve preferred to go at our own pace.  TQ might be a good fit for you if you already own many books, have access to a library with many good books, and enjoy planning and rabbit trails.

Thank you, your information is very helpful! SCM was where I was leaning, and I think that is where I will stay. I don’t have time for reviewing all the books and figuring it which ones I want to use. I like how Sonya has it all laid so I can spend more time enjoying my children, instead of so much time planning. I right now spend most my weekends planning school and I think I would like to have dinner let work done for me.

Bad typos! Phone autocorrected me wrong😂I ment someone else do the leg work for me, not dinner!

I wouldn’t mind letting someone else make dinner for me, though. 😉

I think that SCM is easier because of the actual laid out plan. I have a couple of the Truthquest guides, but I end up going back to the SCM guides b/c they have already chosen excellent books and saves me so much time. I also like that SCM is written so that Bible history is part of the story, but that I can add additional resources that my family uses as well.

You can see a preview of couple weeks worth of work on all the SCM history guide pages.
