I attended a CM retreat this weekend, and this morning I shared a few key thoughts I’m pondering as I prepare for the upcoming school year. Perhaps they might be of interest to others?

I’m still chewing on so many of the lovely ideas I heard this weekend, and would love to hear things others are considering as they begin or plan for the new year.

Lovely! I’m working through the Books and Things seminar from Simply Charlotte Mason each evening and have been pondering a series of quotes too, from various places. Here are a few of them:

“The children should have the joy of living in far lands, in other persons, in other times—a delightful double existence; and this joy they will find, for the most part, in their story-books” – Charlotte Mason

“While we are all teachers, we must fully realize that it is the Holy Ghost who is the real teacher and witness of all truth. Those who do not fully understand this either try to take over for the Holy Ghost and do everything themselves, politely invite the Spirit to be with them but only in a supporting role, or believe they are turning all their teaching over to the Spirit when, in truth, they are actually just “winging it.” All parents, leaders, and teachers have the responsibility to teach “by the Spirit.”2 They should not teach “in front of the Spirit” or “behind the Spirit” but “by the Spirit” so the Spirit can teach the truth unrestrained.” – Matthew O. Richardson

“Train your minds and hands to become an influence for good as you go forward with your lives.” – Gordon B. Hinkley

Tristan, these are beautiful as well! I love the second, especially, and will be writing that in my commonplace book. Thank you for sharing those.

Yes, I know! It was one of those that just really hit me. It is all too easy to forget that all this learning does not hinge on me and my ability. It is between my children and the Spirit, I just facilitate and invite. It’s a lesson I’m still struggling to apply!
