We are in our 5th year of homeschooling this year and have never used a ‘complete packaged curriculum’. I’ve always just chosen what I feel will be most interesting, so we purchase our books from several different places. I’ve used more of the classical approach, but until last year at our homeschooling conference/vendor sale where I purchased a book regarding the CM approach in the used book section, I was never really sure of where I was going regarding our path on the homeschooling front. I really am drawn to CM’s way of teaching and have tried to implement it slowly into our school days, but it isn’t until I found SCM that I felt this is what our family needs (must have!). I have read several of the most popular CM resource books, but for some reason it never really ‘clicked’ for me until you came into my life SCM. 🙂 I was just telling my husband last night that it all seems to have come together now, after enjoying some time on your website perusing every nic-and-cranny (sp??). Your schedules, subject guidelines, forum, ORGANIZER (I love it!), all the helpful information found throughout your website. How do you homeschool and do what you do for SCM? I applaude you and may God bless you abundantly for your time and giving of self to help others make homeschooling CM style possible/easier. I must also add that I am so touched with the humility that exudes from the replies SCM provides to the many wonderful families out there keeping&teaching their children at home.

What more can I say, other than express more “thank you”s! :):)

You probably have no idea how much that means to all of us! Let me tell you a little story that I don’t think we’ve shared yet.

A few years ago when we started this journey that is now SCM, we began by praying together. There were four of us gathered around a folding table in a small room: Sonya and her husband John, me, and my wife, Karen. (You can see our outdated photo and read a bit more on our about page.)

I vividly remember one of the things we prayed about. We asked God to allow us to be a help, blessing, and encouragement to other homeschooling families. We had no idea at that time how this would grow into such a wonderful community.

So you see, all of you who find what we are doing here useful and encouraging are actually an answer to our prayer and you are a blessing to us!

    Doug, you said:

“We asked God to allow us to be a help, blessing, and encouragement to other homeschooling families.”

You’ve done this and more in such a big way! This is the end of our 13th year of homeschooling. I have studied curriculum, and we’ve always used literature based learning mainly, with an eclectic mix at times as well. I prayed to God about what direction He wanted our 7th grade daughter to go in throughout the rest of her homeschooling years, and what to use especially in high school. All of a sudden, it was clear as day….Charlotte Mason! But how? I did NOT want to have to plan out every single part of her schoolwork, or flounder about, but if I had to spend tons of time, I defintely would, because of course, she’s worth it.

Finding SCM has been one of my greatest joys and blessings. Finding this site has truly helped me to understand how to implement that which I’ve loved for years now! It’s helped me to actually put into practice the method that I was having such a difficult time understanding and implementing all these years, yet was so important for me to use! And now for her, I can, and I’m SO happy!!

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU….from the bottom of my heart!

    Blessings and Peace,

I also would like to say THANK YOU. I stummbled across a box at our library and really only skimmed it. I am an hands on/visual learner myself. So I just googled CM and looked at different sights but this one I just kept coming to..

I also read ‘everything’ you have on this website. I used a lot of it to get going and the forum has been a blessing. I come to this sight atleast 2 to 3 times a day just to see what’s new, what I can learn from someone else and as of recently I even asked for prayers and felt like this was just the place to do it.

I am not a make my own curriculm person I like a layed out plan and I feel that’s why I didn’t see this 2 years ago it wasn’t ready for me and I for it. Now with Sonya’s Handbooks for History (my weakest subject by FAR) I am not afraid anymore to tackly history. I am doing Ancient Egypt and by the time I’m done if all goes well she’ll be done with the next module and I continue to pray she keeps going so I can keep going. Thank you Sonya your work and effert are truely paying off.

God bless you all and praise to the Lord for giving you all this insight and for all your time and talent.

    Blessings,

I just keep thinking about how things were 12 years ago when we started homeschooling and using CM. We didn’t have the Internet back then. (Can you imagine? 😉 ) I’m so thankful the Lord has allowed us to encourage people across the world through this technology. And I’m especially grateful that He has allowed us to “meet” and fellowship with all of you! The encouragement flows both ways!

Isn’t God GREAT!! I just recently “discovered” SCM (actually, a revelation from God). What an encouragement. I’ve also tried over the years to implement CM’s methods, but I just couldn’t get it to all come together. This seems to be the rare approach, especially where we live, so to find a support group like this is a true blessing, a treasure actually. Thank you for sharing the blessings that God has given you. I hope to pass it on to others as well.
