Hi! Does anyone have suggestions for materials to teach Georgia state history?
nerakrParticipantWhat grade level?
Check your library for the book America the Beautiful: Georgia. It will look something like this:
https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/books/georgia-by-g-s-prentzas/Sleeping Bear Press also has a good series aimed at younger students but could be used with middle/high school. Georgia’s titles are P is for Peach and A Peck of Peaches.
Also look for The Talking Leaves by Joseph Bruchac or Ahoka and the Talking Leaves by Peter Roop (the story of Sequoyah and the creation of the Cherokee alphabet).
jlcsParticipantThank you for these ideas! For any other ideas, this would be for 9th-grade level. Sorry, I should have included that information. 🙂
Sandra WadeParticipantI haven’t found anything for higher grades. I wanted to do some Georgia history around 8th grade. (I took it in 8th grade public school.) Although I’d like to bring in some Georgia hx with our SCM history, I couldn’t find any information to give me the impression that it is required. Am I correct in thinking it isn’t required?
bethannaParticipantNotgrass History has books for Georgia and for Tennesse. Not sure about grade level though.
jlcsParticipantHi Sandra!
I think that you are correct in that it isn’t required. My ds has picked up on some of it through day trips that we have taken around the state. But I was hoping to have something to fill in the gaps of information. It looks like perhaps the day trips may be the best way. 🙂
