  • I find myself considering Karen Andreola’s “Story Starters” book for my upper elementary kids to perhaps add some interest/spark in their writing. Has anyone here used it with some consistency? What are your thoughts on it? How have you used it as part of your other language arts / composition activities?

Is the style of writing for the “story starters” similar to the style of writing in her other books? And while I’ve looked at the reviews & samples I could find online for this book, none of the actual “starters” were included in those book previews.

PM me with your email address and I’ll send you a sample of a couple.  I like them, DD 10 uses it once a week and doesn’t complain.  It’s nice because they are completely different stories, nothing repetitive.  I use it only to help her get a story going.  I do not critique it or correct anything….yet.  Later in the year, I will start going over grammar mistakes with her.

Thank you, Paula! I appreciate hearing how you are using it, and that your 10yo is somewhat agreeable to it, as well as your offer. I wanted to PM you, but I can’t figure out how to do it on the new system. Do you know how?
