Could you please recommend any books with good examples of siblings showing good character and attitudes towards one another and others? They have read The Boxcar Children already. I would really like a story showing a good big brother example with sacrifice of self, good work ethics, and protecting their family.
These can be short or long stories, aimed at 10 – 14 yo age group though. Thanks.
sherazParticipantThe Trixie Beldon books feature a few families whose kids are best friends. They have all the elements that you are specifically looking for, plus they are adventurous mysteries like the Boxcar Children.
BrookledgeParticipantHow about:
The Railway Children by Edith Nesbit
The Moffats by Eleanor Estes
Meet the Austins by Madeline L’engle
The Sugar Creek Gang books by Paul Hutchens
BrookledgeParticipantThe Five Little Peppers series by Margaret Sydney looks good as well.
sherazParticipantFive Little Peppers is an awesome choice.
TristanParticipantHave you downloaded the booklist from The Good and the Beautiful? It is free today and tomorrow only (Sept. 4-5) and costs after that. It’s a fantastic list and they detail exactly what their criteria are. Very wholesome.
SueParticipantThanks for posting the book list info. That is awesome! I hope many others will take advantage of the free download today.
KarenParticipantI always LOVED Trixie Belden as a kid….and spent my own money to buy as many as I could!
How about The Saturdays? That’s a two brothers, two sisters story.
The Switherby Pilgrims and Jamberoo Road are about a sibling group that is made up of “orphans” (some technically orphans, some practically orphans). And throughout the books, some of the children make bad decisions, live the consequences, and go on to make themselves better. One sibling makes a life changing decision for the betterment of the family. There are lots of good examples in those books. We read them when we studied history (they are about English children moving to the Australian Bush back in the 1800s). Plenty of adventure to keep everyone interested in the story, too.
