I understand not letting the child form an incorrect picture in their mind’s eye of a word, but how do you prevent that in written narrations?  The reading has been assigned.  They have a written narration that day.  How do you prevent them from spelling incorrectly in the narration?

Specifically I see my son incorrectly spelling words when writing them that I can ask him orally to spell and he can do so without error.

Thanks for any insight you all might have!

Claire, one idea that might help is to ask him to read his narration backwards to check for his own errors. I do have my daughter correct any errors in spelling on words she should know.

I proofread it, circle the misspelled words that I think she ought to already know, and put those on her personalized spelling list for that week.
