Simply Music question

I have a 7 year old that wants to start learning the piano. I took over 10 years of lessons when I was a child, but never really pursued it after that, but I still have some basic music knowledge. Simply Music looks like it is so very much fun for children and a great way to introduce them to playing the piano versus the more conventional approach that I am used to. However, I see that the online curriculum is only Level 1 and Level 2. For those of you that have used Simply Music…How long did it take you to get through the two levels? What did you do after you finished the online program?

I guess I am not sure if I should start Simply Music, if I don’t have a plan for after the first two levels. There is a Simply Music instructor in my city, but I am not interested in taking him to piano lessons at this time. I would love to be able to continue lessons at home.

I also see that there is an option for myself to go through Simply Music’s Teacher Training program and then be trained to teach. Thus, I could teach my kids the whole curriculum. Anyone have any experience with that?

I don’t know if this will be helpful, but my 7 yo and 10 yo are doing level 1. I originally figured it would take about a year to get through both levels, at 1 lesson a week, but we’re not actually doing a lesson a week (because I haven’t been consistent about doing new lessons), so it’ll likely take 2 years. I had planned to do another video curriculum after that…I know there are a few that have been mentioned here…but now I think I will just find a regular piano teacher when SM is done, because I think it would be helpful to have someone besides me telling them how to play things properly. I think that is a drawback of SM…it’s more designed for self-motivated teens/adults, and for kids, a parent really needs to know what they’re doing and be able to give feedback that they would normally get from a live instructor.

Thanks for your feedback. It’s good to hear another experience. That’s way I was wondering if I should consider the Teacher Training program so that I could be trained to do the full curriculum.  I know that individual lessons for several little ones could get pricey. What I have read about Simply Music so far seems like such a great approach. I was taught with a more book traditional method and I just never fell in love with the piano because I felt like it was such a struggle learning how to read everything before I could really play beautiful pieces. I don’t know if there is anything else out there for parents to teach that really uses the SM approach.
