We will be beginning our year in January. My boys fall into the same grouping(4-6).  Do you have your children just work on another subject while one reads and narrates. Or choose a different book for each?

    Thank you.

My older boys are those ages. Sometimes, I have them read out loud together and then take turns narrating and sometimes, I let them take turns reading. I like having them read out loud to each other because I think it’s good practice. 🙂

That’s a great idea. Thank you.

My middle girls are 3rd and 6th.  We team read many of their readings (I usually read a bit longer than they do) and discuss the book together.  I have them read one book on their own (in addition to their free reading outside of school).   We each have a copy of their literature books (I usually buy used from Thrift Books).

My older two (8th and 10th) share most of their books, which they read independently.  We discuss them together afterwards.   They have their own copy of their literature books, but share most of their history books because it is more expensive to buy duplicates of those.

When we narrate together, I try to make sure I don’t always start with the same person.
