Hi I’m new here, I’ve been hs’ing two of my older children for a few years and next year I will be hs’ing three children (grades 7,3,1). I would love to use SCM, however, I prefer a secular curriculum. I was looking at the year 1 history spine, and was wondering if its very heavily religious throughout or is the religious stuff confined to the bible readings?

Hi Chaya and welcome to the SCM forum!  I have a child just finishing grade 7 and one just finishing 5th grade.  We’ve been through four of the SCM history modules and you could easily use them with your worldview. The book selections are really great and, even with a wide age range, the family read-alouds are enjoyable to all as well.  There are some you may want to skip, and those are easy to find by looking at Amazon reviews, or keep some in as they are still a part of history.  My kids found the Louise Vernon books especially riveting.

Not every book will fit every family no matter what your outlook is so, when there was a book in the guide that wasn’t working for us, we just swapped it out.  The forum and SCM Book Finder are helpful tools for that and SCM has made it simple planning-wise, especially when you are educating more than one child.

    I hope this helps.

    Warmly,

    Richele
