I am jumping into doing SCM all the way next year.  I have a question (the first of many I’m sure) about the Personal Development portion.  I will have a 4 th grader, 1st grader and K.  What “grade” should I jump in at for the personal develpment suggestions?

Specifically, this is the link to those resources.

    Thanks so much!

This was our first year using SCM, and I wanted to do Personal Development with all 3 of mine together.  (13yo dd, 11yo ds, 10yo dd.)  We used “Wisdom and the Millers” at the beginning of the year, and they really liked the stories.  If fact, I just asked my 13yo, and she said she loved it, even though it is listed several grade levels below hers.  I read the stories to them, and I believe it would hold the interest of children younger than mine.

We are now reading “A Faithful Boy’s Influence” by Aunt Friendly, although it’s not listed on SCM’s guide.  It’s probably best for older children like mine, but the chapters are rather short, so it might hold the interest of your younger two.

My 12yo loves the Millers….we have read Wisdom/Prudence and the Millers and are on Missionary Stories with the Millers.  My kids are 12, 8, and 5…they all listen to the stories together, and love them.  My 12 has a personal Bible Devo for boys his age that he reads daily in his room, usually in the morning.  My 8yo (almost 9) has begun his own devo for kids on his own, a little young for him, but I wanted him to just get used to the idea of having his own private time with God.  They both spend about 5 minutes on their’s and I don’t ask questions about it, except if they have taken time to read it.
