I always love to hear what and how all you great mammas out there are doing. As I read through the other scheduling topic, I found myself wondering how I might schedule our day, just one almost 6 ds and me. I guess that makes all our work “Family Work,” huh? 🙂 Is there anyone else out there that’s just working with one child using CM (and not having to factor in any little ones either)?

Perhaps I shoud introduce myself, now that I’ve asked my first question. Briefly, I’m an adoptive mom of one super kid, army wife, and recently returned to my home state of TX. We’ve been using FIAR for preK and K this year. Although as I read more and more about CM, I’m finding I want to start implementing some now. I’m currently reading through some files I’ve printed from other CM sites for the earlier years and am figuring on how to begin to transition into grade 1. I really don’t think ds will be ready for year 1/grade 1 until he gets closer to 7, but I do think I can make some changes now that would help the transition go more smoothly later. So that’s who I am and where I am in a nutshell. This looks like a great forum.

    A big Texas wave,

Hi Melissa, This won’t be long, as it’s late, but I just want to say hi, as another mom of one! We have 3 older kiddos, and adopted our little girl when the youngest was 19! I implemented the living book idea of CM with the older 3, but I think her wisdom is even more clear to me now, so I’m trying to really understand and follow her ideas more closely this time. I do think that educating one is different in some respects, but I believe CM’s philsosphies are full of life and wisdom for any situation. It sounds like you’ve already been doing some reading, and I know that’s how I’ve gotten any good thoughts I have! I’ve just finished “When Children Love to Learn.” The first half or so has helped me continue mulling over the why, what, and hows of what we’re doing. There are other books and websites, and of course this awesome spot to interact with real people and their ideas, experience, etc.! For right now, I’d just encourage you to enjoy these precious days with your son, don’t push, get outside a lot, and trust God to guide you one day at a time! In Him, Nancy

Hi Melissa, Scheduling one has been hard for me. Which is my fault not my daughters, I am being a perfectionist. I want her to enjoy school enjoy learning, and when we do it just the two of us sometimes I think she is bored, But, all that to say, you are right all the time is family time. It took me a while to be able to understand I dont have seperate times here. I also as the other nancy, I have 2 older daughters who are grown. I had my 8yrold dd later in life. What a blessing and a gift. I love homeschooling, I love CM. I need to relax on my perfectionism, and go with it, Simply charlotte Mason is a great sight, has great ideas for scheduling and books to use. I am very impressed with all that has been done here. I also love the organizer. I did a trial, When we are more financially stable, I will use it all the time, I just love it, This sight above all the sights have given me the best info.

I enjoy their books, they have truly helped. laying down the rails, and planning a charlotte mason education. Great Great Great, It seems to take as much time to plan for one as it does for several. Would not trade it for the world, Its kind of funny, in our homeschool support group here, I am a minority with only 1 child, most have 8+, One is just what God wanted me to have. I know I have rambled, But I love it, and It is good to hear from other moms who have onlys. God bless, nancyt.
