Some one who is using the scm history guides…..how long do you allow in your daily schedule for the family part of the lesson? and how long generally is needed each day for the independant  assigned  reading (gr8 and 9)? trying to work out my average weekly schedule….thanks in advance… Jo

I have tried several different ways to do the SCM history module lessons.  The best thing, I believe, that has worked for us, is to set the timer for about 30 minutes and then stop when the timer goes off IF kids gave their full attention.  On some days, I really am determined to finish the lesson, especially if it’s an easier – to – comprehend passage.  You could set the timer for 20 minutes or longer than 30 minutes or for whatever works for your kids.

We plan 20 minutes per day.  Later on they read their history reading plus a literature reading, and I plan on 30-40 minutes for that…although they usually work on this as I make lunch, so I’m not sure exactly how long they are spending on just the history portion.  Since they don’t usually have an independent reading assignment for geography or Bible, we use that time for catching up on history readings.
