My son finished RS math level F last year for 6th grade.

Does anyone know if level G will indeed be completed this summer as the website estimated?

Also is level G supposed to be a Pre-Algebra course of sorts?

Trying to map out the course of math jr. high through high school…and considering transcripts that might be required. Wondering if RS has plans for the higher levels of math, algebra, geom, algebra 2, etc.

Or would it be wiser to switch over to Math-U-See?

We like Videotext Algebra and Geometry.  The approach is similar to Right Start.  It includes Algebra, but I wouldn’t start it yet unless your child is advanced in math.  Principles in Mathematics is another option.  Math U See is our 2nd choice.

RS recommends VideoText and we really like it. We have done 1st edition of RS skipping their Geometry course.

After RightStart geometry, we switched to Mr. D online. We absolutely love it.  It is quite a change from the independent self-study of RS Geometric Approach, but I recommend it. No offense to anyone, but when I borrowed some VideoText DVDs from a friend, I simply thought I would not be able to tolerate them, and I don’t think my daughter would have been very inspired.  The teaching may be good, but the videos were, in my opinion, quite dry and not very engaging.   Mr. D can be self paced or you can do a once a week live online class.  The last option costs more, of course, but my daughter loved it, learned a lot, and had fun. Her love of math grew instead of died.   Just another option, one you may not have heard of…

We ended up doing Right Start Level G this year (7th grade) and now see that RS will have a level H coming out 2019.

He really liked level G, but not sure if we want to do H for grade 8 if that would put him behind the traditional sequence (grade 8 algebra 1, grade 9 geom, grade 10 algebra2, etc.).

We have done RS levels A-G, should he be able to jump into Algebra 1 now?

Marie, what did you decide to do, and how is it going? My 8th grader is doing Right Start G this year and LOVES it (we previously did Saxon 7/6). I am thinking that it is pre-algebra and he can start Algebra next year???

3fallingleaves, I was thinking of having him use Mr D’s algebra after Right Start G, which sounds like what you did. However, you probably used the first edition of G, which I believe covers more than the 2nd edition that I am using.

Did you find there were any holes for your student? Is there anything I should supplement or work on before starting Mr D’s algebra?

Thanks for your help, ladies! We were a Saxon family until a few years ago and now math is just falling apart for us!! I still have one son in Saxon (Algebra II), one who dropped out of Saxon in mid-Algebra I and recently finished Life of Fred Algebra I (not sure that was a good idea!) and now my youngest is using Right Start and I know I won’t be able to do Saxon with him. I’m actually thinking of putting all three boys into Mr D’s program next year: Algebra I, Algebra II and pre-calculus/trig. I hope they love it!!!
