What do your children do during read-alouds? Have you found that they listen fine when they are drawing, or do you require that they just sit and listen?

My kids color bible or history coloring pages, or they draw.Sometimes my dd, 12 will cross-stitch.Usually it will go a lot smoother if their hands are busy.

*Sometimes if I think they’re not paying attention, I’ll go ahead and ask for a narration in the middle..they usually surprise me, by knowing exactly what I just read!

My daughter (8) likes to read along with me, so she usually sits next to me and reads over my shoulder. Or she will knit, which she is learning to do.

My little one will color or cuddle a stuffed animal. Sometimes I will read while they are eating lunch or a snack. They are a “captive” audience and their mouths are usually full so they don’t chit chat!

    Faith 🙂
