Ok so I am reading posts about how much everyone spends and I’m like I must be doing something wrong?

I see some of you are re-using your math curriculm? how do you do that? This is a HUGE expensive for us every year with 5 kids right now. I love MUS and will not switch but how do you really re-use it.

Here’s my thought you say you use like clear covers – so do you use 2 one for each side? how do thye not erase things they have writen? That would be my fear you know they are doing it and their arm gets it or the little one climbs on the table and gets it or I don’t always correct their books right after they do it.

What other ideas do you have? I know one issue I have is I like the have the books on hand, the library last year which I used a TON has a lot fo books but it’s aways late, or I can only have it a short time cause someone else has a hold on it. etc. etc. I use it when I can but I can’t for my overall schooling it just doesn’t work for me. Makes my head spin to try and remember to request things.

Just looking for more ideas how to not spend so much. Would love your insite!

Ok and I buy used on almost everything I can. Could you put links to some of your favorite sites to buy used books. Thanks Misty ( I use paperback swap already!)

    Misty,

There are people all over the map on this issue of reusing materials. I, personally, do not copy or use dry erase, etc on Math U See’s workbooks because it is breaking their copyright. I have actually called and asked for permission, or for an ebook version of the workbook at a higher price so I can print pages for my own kids and they said no. I respect their copyright and buy a new workbook for each child.

And yes, the price hurts. Right now I’m buying 4 workbooks and will add a new workbook child to that total every year for the next 3 years.

It’s the one thing I hate about MUS. I love that Saxon has hardback textbooks in the upper grades so the student copies the problems on their own sheet of paper beginning around 4th or 5th grade. Buy I don’t like Saxon’s approach, and I love MUS. Just hate that they use workbooks even in the upper levels.

They should give a family discount Tristan! 🙂

I personally hated Saxon textbook layout. It felt way too cumbersome. MUS has a simple, easy look. I really like the workbooks, just wish the price was under $20.

If you use sheet protectors, they could answer with wet erase pens or dry erase crayons, neither of which erase as easily as dry erase markers. I would buy enough sheet protectors to do the whole book and then put the book in a binder, taking out a weeks worth of pages at a time.

The other possibility is they simply copy the problems to a notebook. I’d do this if they are older, say 4th or 5th grade.

To search many used book sites at once, use. http://Www.bookfinder.com.

I would never copy a copyright protected workbook, but I’ve no issue re-using it in one of the ways I mentioned above for my own children.
