Just started looking at Ray’s Arithmetic. It looks very good! I already have math for this coming year (Horizons K) and wondered how easy it would be to switch to Ray’s after that. Also, how would I know where to start him when he gets to first grade, after finishing Horizons K? Anyone able to help? Thanks!
AnonymousInactiveI have wondered about ray’s too …..looks like a great program but i don’t know anyone who has used it
would be interested to hear responses about this! 🙂
Laura.boraParticipantWe use Ray’s Arithmetic and love it. I have one kid in the first book, and my oldest working his way through the 2nd book. I have never used anything other than Ray’s, but I would imagine that switching from any K program would be an easy transition. The first book covers mostly the basics – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. At the end, it covers measurement and time. I would start at the beginning of the book – if he’s already familiar with addition and subtraction, it will give him a lot omre practice in word problems and serve as a review at that time, before moving onto Multiplication.
AnonymousInactiveDo you think that your children are better at mental math after doing Ray’s?
Laura.boraParticipantYes, I do. Granted, I don’t have anything to compare them to, since we’ve only done Ray’s aritmetic, but even now in the second book of arithmetic, my oldest son does most of his work mentally. I also notice that they are really good at word problems, because Ray’s has a huge focus on word problems as well.
