Quick help, anyone? Dd 14 is really suffering w/PMS right now. Bad stomache ache and threw up. She usually gets a bad stomach ache for 1/2 a day, but this is the worst ever. Any treatment ideas? Thanks!

I have always had painful periods, but last summer I started vomiting every month… I tried SOO MANY different options… Pamprin, used to help in entirety but not now! But I FINALLY found Doterrq Clary Calm. I only use it during my period, wherever it hurts the worst. I still use the Pqmprin, especially overnight, but it is the Clary Calm that makes my periods bearable. Some months I don’t even need the Pamprin during the day. I know that what your daughter is going through is horrible and I hope it helps.

P.S. you can get Clary Calm at Amazon.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll look into it for next month. Sorry you suffer too! I never had periods like that except right after I entered college. I think the poor diet, lack of exercise, and stress probably did it. She eats pretty well (what I make her:) but teenage appetite/snacking is hard to keep up with. Thanks again !

I have always had extremely painful periods also with diarrhea, vomiting and swelling to the point that my eyes would swell shut.  My Mom tried just about everything for me when I was young.  She also took me to a doc who gave me prescription meds.  Nothing helped.  Someone suggested that I switch from using store-bought pads to using cloth pads.  I was initially resistant (and skeptical) but eventually tried them and am very glad I did.  It made an amazing difference!  I now have NO symptoms except occassional slight cramps.  And I do not take anything.

Schele…thank you SO, SO much!!!!  I bought dd cloth pads from the start and she doesn’t like them. She kept grabbing regular pads (that I’d bought for doggie diapers, not her…LOL:) I just told her this morning that maybe she should switch back…but I think she thinks it’s ‘mom’s natural is always better spiel.’  I use the cloth and get virtually no PMS. I’m INSISTING now…NO MORE STORE BOUGHT PADS!!  Thanks again for sharing:) Off to copy this for skeptical dd….. Blessings, Gina

When I stopped using tampons and started using my menstrual cup (Diva Cup/Moon Cup), it made a big difference for me. I cannot stand pads at all (discomfort, feels like a diaper, smelly), so I started using tampons when I was 14. I used to have horrible PMS–to the point that I often missed school when it climaxed on the first day of my period. Now, I feel tired, might get a headache and have some cramps, but nothing near like what it was before I started using the cup. I think the bleach and chemicals used in conventional products really contribute to the awful symptoms. If you want less laundry and smell, I highly recommend the cup. It is what I plan to use with my dd when she gets her period. Hope she feels better soon!!

Cloth pads definitely help.  I know from experience!

Also, a good multivitamin specifically formulated for a woman’s needs is essential  (I use Optivite).

Agree with LindseyD. A cup changed EVERYTHING!

Are you really all saying that pads give you PMS symptoms!!? I have never heard of that. Oh my goodness. I get migraines with periods, and very infrequent cramps. This last while, I’ve noticed the headaches come  or are worse after my period starts. Could that really be the pads? In fact, I bet it’s been since I switched brands. I can’t believe it.

Could someone explain cloth ones? I think it sounds gross, but I could handle it to help with headaches.

I agree that the Diva Cup is an AMAZING invention. Easy, simple to clean, less cramps.

here is a link to how to wash them.  I made my own from a pattern off the web, or you can buy them.

This article  has the most info I could find on how disposable products could cause you harm.  There is not much scientific evidence but plenty of personal accounts for changes in their body once they switch and there is evidence against disposables as being toxic.

Thanks for the added confirmation:) I’m sharing w/dd because she’s still not convinced…but I’m simply not going to buy store bought so she’s stuck! I’ll have to check into DIVA again…thought it seemed troublesome but maybe it’s not so difficult:)

@art… sending you a PM. Typed a response but it’s probably TMI for the board…especially if any men are reading:)
