I have only posted once but thought I’d make a quick introduction! I’m Tara, a homeschooling mom to 3 girls, Julia age 6, Claire age 4, and Sophia, 18 mos. Julia is in K this year and I’m using Hearts of Dakota curriculum. I have bought the SCM History module 1 for next fall and have been using the Planning your Charlotte Mason Educ DVD and Planner and LOVE it! I’m so excited to be organized for the Fall school year already. 🙂

I homeschooled Julia beginning at age 3 just using ideas off the internet. I used Teach your Child to Read when she was 5, and she learned how to read quickly! She reads books all the time now at a 2nd grade level (I’m guessing).

I really love the Charlotte Mason method and have slowly implemented it this year for K (some nature study and lots of reading books that are good literature after throwing out the twaddle!)

I feel so blessed the Lord has put me in position to homeschool our daughters! It’s funny but homeschooling our daughters for the long term was never an option for me until last spring when my husband and I prayed about sending our oldest to K in public school vs our church’s school. I had no desire to send her to public but just out of convenience (too far to drive to our church’s school each day and the public school is only 5 mins away). After researching what homeschooling is, it clicked with me this is what I want to do! WHY do I *have* to send our daughters to someone else to teach them?? I don’t. 😉 I was a preschool teacher before having my daughters but never really really loved teaching until teaching my own daughters!

I do have one question: How do I put a picture in my profile? 😕 Thanks!

    And God bless!

    Tara

Hey I’m so glad you’ve discovered the joy of home schooling. I just found it myself! And a friend directed me to the CM method. I’m letting my daughter who is 7 finish her year out in second grade. And then in the fall I’ll start homeschooling her at the 3rd grade level. I also have a 3 year old boy and an 18 month old. So our kids are very similar ages! How exciting! I wish you the best of luck in this adventure!

    Welcome Tara ~

Its so great to have you with us! You can add your picture by going to http://www.gravatar.com. Once your done setting up your avatar, it will show up here on the SCM forum site. 🙂

Can I ask you which “Teach your child to read” book you used with your dd?

I look forward to getting to know you more! Looks like we both have an 18 month old – what fun! I have 3 boys ages 13, 8 and baby. We’ve been homeschooling for 7 years which is very pale incomparison to the other wonderful mommys here. 🙂

    God Bless,

I’m sorry, I should have finished typing the title of the book instead of being lazy! lol Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. It was weird at first the way they do the letters but we got used to it!

Thanks for the welcomes and I’ll check out the gravatar site sometime.

Yes having a baby can be a challenge when it comes to homeschooling! I’m blessed my girls have always played well w/o mommy so I can get work done. I just have to step in when they argue. @@

    Have a great day, ladies!

I went to the site, http://gravatar.com . I think, this is the right site, that will allow you to upload a picture to your profile. Hopefully if this is wrong, Doug will post and help us.

    Blessings,
