    Hello,

My name is Brenda and I have two girls. One in 5th and the other in 8th grade. I am planning my highschool graduation requirements and although I have enjoyed Ambleside online book selections, they appear to be too much for my girls. I will possibly make the switch this year but don’t really understand this site’s system. Ambleside has preset reading list. I have yet to find that here. I also keep reading people saying they are starting module 6 or module 5.  I don’t understand where these modules are. It sounds from the threads that people do their own thing and use other sources like beautiful feet. Any direction would be helpful, please. I feel like we are way behind. I can’t catch up with Ambleside and my kids try so hard. It’s just not fun anymore. Please help.  I even considered going back to Lifepacs but my kids beg me not to. They want to read, go figure, my oldest struggles with comprehension and wants to read.

    Hi Brenda,

you’ll want to go to the homepage and go to the planning section, then choose the curriculum guide.  It will walk you through everything and it should be pretty clear what the modules are from there.  After reading through that,  feel free to ask any more clarification questions that are needed.  SCM is set up quite differently from Ambleside.

The curriculum guide will walk you through step by step https://simplycharlottemason.com/planning/curriculum-guide/

The history guides (or modules) can be found here. The samples are fantastic! Select a time period and download a sample. It will show all the books/grade level and gives the first few lessons to really see how it works.

Once you figure it out, I think SCM’s guide is easier to understand than AO.  There is also much greater freedom for picking your own books.

And here is a link to a specific guide if that helps.  I’ve used TQ since its release but if I were to give that up, I’d definitely use these guides.  I love their layout and clarity.  You always know what to do and I especially love that they give reminders…get such and such ready so you will have it handy in lesson ___.  Love that!  ??

I would reccomend the Planning Your CM Ed set It is something I use every year. It helps get your school year planned out so simply. This forum is FULL of brilliant mamas with great experience. Read through or keep posting Q’s. It is a fountain of encouragement. The modules of history/geography/bible guides are SCM’s spine and brilliantly laid out, complete with reading lists. I really hope this forum can be of some help to you, keeping you on the educational path you began and enriching it. I have always believed SCM to be one of the best things I have found in my 9 years of homeschooling.

I’m thinking of switching too but don’t know where to start.

Have you seen the SCM Curriculum Guide? That will give you the big picture and book lists for starters.
