Does anyone have a suggested book to replace Oxford Ancient History for History/Bible Mod.1? It’s not available at the library and I don’t really want to buy it for $20 from Amazon just to be used for 2 or 3 chapters. Money is tight and I’m trying to get things as cheap as possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!Laughing

Just a suggestion… can you do inter library loan with your library?  My library doesn’t have it either and that is what we are doing.  🙂

Just an FYI, the rest of Oxford First Ancient History will be used in Modules 2 and 3. So if you’re planning to keep going in the History/Bible/Geography modules, you will use almost all of the book over the course of three years (minus the evolutionary stuff at the beginning).

I was able to get it on half.com for only $14.44 (with media mail shipping), amazon had it for $22, but I thought that was a good savings!

I had not even thought of checking the other modules to see if I would use it again! Thanks Sonya! If I have to spend the money now I won’t feel so bad. I’ll check interlibrary loan first though. Thanks!

You might check Alibris.com. I got mine for 12.75. There is one on there right now for 11.22.

    Just another place to look.

    Hope this helps:)

Is this book suddenly out of print? Amazon and Alibris both have it–for about $85!! Needless to say, I can’t afford to pay that much.

I was wondering the same thing. I can’t find it for the good prices you all have been talking about!

I found two that are a decent price under the uk amazon site. You may have to have it shipped to a friend in Europe to get it though. There is also one on biblio that you can get for $13.71 if you order it quickly.

Being English I buy from Amazon uk often and there is no trouble getting books.  Obviously the pounds get converted to dollars and the shipping is higher, but it is possible.  If you have an Amazon account you log into the UK site in the same way and have things shipped to your US address.  I actually got my copy of the book when I was still living in England.   Linda

I’ve been in contact with Oxford this week. They have confirmed that they are letting this book go out of print, Frown but I am trying to get permission for SCM to print it for you all. I’ll keep you posted. They say it may take 4-6 weeks to get an answer.

I’ve also been looking for this book…apparently, I’m not alone because everytime I find one it’s gone before I can order it.  I found it @ Amazon a few months ago for $24.95, added it to my list and when I went back recently to buy it it was gone! and now they’re $85!!  🙁

My suggestion is to pay $35 (25 for the book & 10 for shipping) at Winter Promise and be done with the hassle of hunting it down.

Good luck!  and, oh, the SCM printing sounds like a great idea!  Good luck with that too!Smile

It is such a great book!  I do hope that Oxford will let SCM take over printing.

I didn’t realize it was even hard to find when I bought it earlier this summer, but I’m glad I went ahead and purchased it.  I found it at overstock.com, but it is not there any longer.

That would be awesome if they let SCM print it.

Just so you know, I tried to buy it from Winter Promise last week, and though it was on their website, it was actually sold out and out of print.  I am hopefully getting it from someone from online, but this is EXTREMELY hard to find.  I have looked everywhere, as I’m sure many of you have been.
