Just found a great place to buy the Oxford First Ancient History book at this site. A good price too! Better than what I could find it for even on amazon or anywhere else even used! $25.00 including shipping! Just ordered one. I hope this is the right book…but it sure looked the same and had the same author!LOL!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I have to share from my experience. I ordered this book from them months ago. I received an email confirmation and everything but never got a shipment. After waiting about 8 weeks (I was out of the country on missions during that time), I emailed their customer support to inquire about my order. They replied to inform me that the book was no longer in print and that my order was cancelled. They did not charge my credit card. They just never contacted me or notified me that the book would not ever be delivered. If I had not finally contacted them, I would have just been waiting forever. That is horrible customer service! I’m not sure why they have it on their page and allow orders when they don’t have the book, but it is quite frustrating.

If you have already ordered, I would recommend sending them an email at their customer support to verify that you will actually get a book. Feel free to reply to let us know if you actually get one from them.

I”m not sure if its still for sale, for I saw today on the CM curricula buy/sale yahoo group the Oxford book listed in with a group of other CM items for sale for $25.  It was posted on July 30th and was listed with a bunch of other books, some being SCM.  I think its worth asking if its still for sale if you join the group.

I sent a message to the Oxford customer service email address. They send me an almost immediate response that I would not be charged for the book. Then the more I thought about it, the more aggravated I became. I sent a reply that said that there are several of us homeschooling families looking for that book, and that several of us had excitiedly thought that we had found it on their site and purchased it. However, we later found that it was not really available and that was very disappointing! I suggested that if the book is not available that they should take it off their site! 🙂 I feel better now.

I got this email from the folks at Oxford University Press:

Thank you for your email.  This has been brought to the attention of our marketing team.  Hopefully it will come off the website or become a print on demand publication.  I recommend checking back in 2-3 months.

Thank you for contacting Oxford University Press.

Oh bummer about the bad news! I thought I had found a GREAT deal. I let go of a chance to buy it from another member here but was having issues with paypal and HATE using paypal to make payments ,etc and missed out on my chance. I have about pulled my hair out trying to get this book!LOL! Any other good alternatives if im not able to find it soon? I will check out the yahoo group you buys mentioned. We are starting our homeschool year next week and I wanted to be prepared but have no idea what to do! HELP! They really need to take that book off there website store…it’s very disheartening to think you got a good deal and then nada!

    Amanda,

That is awesome that you let them know how we all feel and all frustrating it is that they are still advertising for that book. Hopefully they will get that cleared up soon

I have to confess, I also tried to order one from the Oxford site.  After reading this discussion, I wondered if Oxford heard from several of us looking for the book would they be more willing to offer the publishing on demand or even reprint the book.  Who knows!  But it’s worth a try.  I sent them a nice message, forwarding my email confirmation that I tried to order the book, and simply let them know that I was a homeschooling mom desperately looking for this book since it’s a core part of 6 history modules of SCM.  I included a link to the respective curriculum page.  Maybe if enough of us let them know of our interest it might work.

I wonder if we all signed some sort of online doc and sent it to them what would happen…;)
