Don’t forget to add the book Owl Moon by Jane Yolen. We love that picture book.

my3boysParticipantThanks everyone.
I do have Owl Moon and we began reading it today. I found Owls in the Family in our home library along with There’s an Owl in My Shower. What I hadn’t thought about was the Handbook of Nature Study site…I remember the owl study awhile back, but didn’t do it, obviously.
What got this started was a lull in science for my 7yo. He enjoys nature study when we get to it and was tagging along w/ his br.’s Swimming Creatures, but his br. has decided that he just enjoys reading Swimming Creatures (w/ narration) but not really following the text as written. He’s reading what he’s interested in, notebooking when he wants to, and reading Jack’s Insect (w/ notebook) on Fridays (which he loves). Well, I kind of ran into a problem w/ my 7yo not having a science program for himself and although we can (and do) read various science-y books, I needed something to focus on. So we read a Jim Arnosky book and that got him hooked so we are going in that direction for now. He’s the type that is easily distracted by “Squirrel” and needs hands on activities to keep his attention. Even coloring pages are better than nothing but these ideas are great and have given me alot to draw from, so thank you!
