I am new to CM and am overwhelmed with history rotation. I don’t know where to start. My son is 12. I’ve tried Ambleside Online but since my son is older I don’t know where we should start? Would appreciate any recommendations on books/ curriculum options/ history timelines and or history spine.

    Thank you kindly in advance.

It will depend on the credits you want/need for graduation. Technically, you can start with SCM’s Egypt and work through all of their history modules at one per year. That will get you through all of them in time for graduation. There is a page in all the samples (towards the end) that tell you how to figure credits for transcripts.

Their history modules/guides has a spine, timeline or BOC entry suggestions, and additional reading for the various grades, so it is all complete if you follow it as written. I add things occasionally as I think it will interest my student but you do not have to. It will feel lighter than AO but it is still a solid program.

I agree with Sheraz.  At 12 he is entering 7th grade?  If so, that lines up with starting Ancient Egypt.

As you decide where to begin, keep in mind that he will need to use both the Early Modern and Modern studies as a highschool student (or 8th grade +) in order to earn 1 full American History credit.
