Here is the how and arrow site I’m looking at for options for ds4.
As far as book series, my kids loved both of Chuck Black’s series. We finished one series, so purchased the next series for Christmas last year (then my son was almost 8). Mindware has a lot of educational games and ideas. This year all my son wants are star wars legos.

DS9 (almost 10) is getting an electric scooter (lots on craigslist) and a locking footlocker (to keep ds4 out of his things)
