Thanks to someone on this forum I got YC books on my Kindle Fire via a process that wasn’t in the instructions sent out by YC.  Now, I am trying to follow the instructions from YC to transfer these files unto the ipad via i tunes and I have no luck.  Can someone walk me through this?  I don’t have an option in our itunes to add folder to library, and I can’t seem to figure out how to add a single file (I follow the instructions and they don’t show up in my books under our computer itunes section.

Anyone here transfer these files from computer to ipad successfully?  This is a more tedious process than I thought it would be.  Thanks in advance!

Thanks to YouTube I figured this out. Thanks anyway.

Can you share how  you did this? the YouTube link maybe? Also I would love to know how you got the files to your Kindle Fire. Thanks so much!

Mysterious lady, on another recent thread I asked if anyone had trouble, like me, downloading to the fire. Heather posted how she did it and I followed her instructions. Basically, once the kindle files are downloaded to the PCM, extract them all to a new folder on the desktop. Hook up the fire to the PCM and open the books folder under the kindle device window from your computer. Then open your kindle file folder, select a few books at a time, copy and paste them into your kindle fire books folder (instead of the docs folder like yc tells you to do). Although the files were placed in the books folder, they show up in the documents category on the fire. Very strange….I would have never figured that out on my own.

For the ipad, I searched on YouTube “how to download ePub files to the ipad”. It was confusing, but I downloaded all the yc ePub files to the PC and extracted all the files to a new separate folder on my PC desktop. I signed into itunes with my apple id, opened iTunes music folder, dragged the desktop yc ePub file folder into iTunes, and shortly after this the books showed up in the book section of my pc’s iTunes window. Then I hooked the ipad up to the PC with the USB cord, clicked an option somewhere in the iTunes window from the PC that said sync (this may have come up by itself or I may have found it as a sidebar to a library section or file on the left side of the iTunes window beside books or music). At some point iTunes asked me to select all or to select individual titles to sync. I selected “all” and hit the apply button at the bottom of that page.

Again, transferring the books to both devices was new and confusing for me, I am new to using iTunes so the YouTube video helped me better than the yc instructions, and I may have described the way it worked for me on the ipad in the wrong order since it was confusing when I did it. I don’t remember which youtube video it was, but if you do a search for transferring books from computer to ipad, you should find a similar video. I hope it helps you, even if I described the process incorrectly.

On a lighter note, after spending an hour figuring out how to transfer the yc collection to the new ipad from the PC, everything else on my new ipad is so easy to use and figure out. I am LOVING the ipad!!!

Correction, I’m brand new to the ipad keypad and the PCM abbr. written above was meant to be PC for personal computer. I just didn’t type it right.

Thank you! I noticed that the few YC I already had were in the Docs section, and they have generic book covers. Hoping they will have real book covers in the Books section? Although if I send them to the Cloud first and then send them to separate devcices or Kindle Reader apps, I’m not sure what they will look like. I *really* like having a pretty book cover. 🙂

    Thank you for your help!

The way I did it based on Heather’s advice on the other thread, after I downloaded them to kindle’s book folder on the kindle PC window, the books downloaded directly to the documents tab on the actual kindle fire with the book covers showing. I didn’t have to transfer them to docs like i do with other downloads. Maybe you could try deleting the generic cover books off your kindle device and start over doing it this way. I’m not sure if you could copy and paste all the files at once into the kindle book folder, I just did a few at a time because that worked for the person who suggested I transfer them this way. I understand that following the yc instructions works fine for the older kindle ereaders, it’s just the kindle fires that are confusing. hTH

I’m trying to figure out why Kindle books not purchased through Amazon only come over as documents on the Fire and the book covers only show up on my carousel when opened, not the document page. As I explained in the previous thread I’m struggling with organizing a large volume of books that would make it easier to navigate. Having the book covers would help.

ibkim2: Do you have a Kindle Fire HD? I used the same method as you to download the books onto the Fire, but I don’t see the book covers. I own the basic Fire, so maybe that is the difference?

Mysterious Lady: We seem to be having the same issue. I haven’t attempted saving everything to the Cloud yet. It might be a solution, but I question if I would max out the free space limit or if there is a less tedious solution.

@TreasureHouse, I don’t think you can save them to the cloud.  As far as the book covers, they don’t show up in the docs screen, but as you stated, they do show up on the carousel.  I’ve got the same issue as you with trying to process and organize the books in a workable manner, but what I finally did was use the YC Books with Descriptions pdf which was included in the YC purchase to choose which books I wanted immediate access to.  I clicked on the book I wanted in the docs screen, then clicked the back arrow to choose the next book I wanted, opened that book, then clicked the back arrow, and so on.  This made the books (with covers) appear on the carousel and then I touch-held the book in the carousel and added it to my favorites.  This way I broke down the portions I know I want to use for school or for reading on my own without having to weed through all of them constantly.  To make it easier, you may want to print out the books with descriptions pfd and make notes to yourself regarding when you’ll want to use them.  I sure hope this helps!!

Great suggestion, Heather, to add to my favorites! I haven’t used the Fire much to figure out how it can best be used. This is going to be a tremendous help. I can have our current book selections along with other helpful favorites for the term…music from our composer, documentaries for history, internet links, apps… I love having everything we’ll use at our fingertips. It all helps to save time.

I agree about the YC Book Descriptions pdf. I also have it printed with notes all over it. Thanks for reminding me about it. I need to get it back out and look for some gems to add to our upcoming term.

I have the basic fire. I did get the book covers to show up on docs when I finally got them downloaded Heather’s way, but for other books in public domain the covers have the plain generic look. I need to learn how to use the KF to its full capacity as well. I’ve had the fire for a year. YC books are the only thing I’ve purchased for it though, everything else has been free downloads and apps.

It shouldn’t be so hard. Smile

Would you mind testing one of our free books on your iPad and let me know how it goes? I want to make sure our books are easier to use than what you went through.

First, if you don’t already have the free iBooks app, please go get it first. It’s a wonderful book reader and will make this easier.

Use the browser on your iPad to visit our page for the free A Thinking Love book. Select the option for ePub for your iPad… then add it to your cart and check out. You’ll get a download link. Touch that and your iPad should ask what you want to use to open it. Choose iBooks and wait for it to load.

Did it work? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Doug, I just downloaded this book from the ipad to my iBooks. It was simple and instant. The yesterday classic collection downloaded fine on the ipad once I got over my learning curve in using the iTunes window to transfer the files there and sync to my ipad. The YC files have to be transferred from a Mac or PC. I’m not sure why. After reading other people’s experiences with kindle files, it seems the kindle fire is less user friendly than the older kindle readers when it comes to downloading books in kindle format. Next time I am on my kindle fire I will try to download the same book you linked to see if the PDF downloads instantly to docs or requires extra steps. However, don’t hold your breath for a response, because after spending 24 hrs with my new ipad it might be a long while before I turn on my kindle fire again, lol.

Thanks for testing and the feedback. I’m glad to hear it worked well for you.

If the YC files were delivered in a zip file you would need to install an unzip app on your iPad deal with them directly. Then you can unzip them and send them to iBooks. We have a page about putting files on your iPad that tells how it works.

If you do try it on your Kindle be sure to grab the mobi format version.

Thanks Doug, I downloaded the izip app and tried it out on the SCM memory verse pack. The files downloaded fine, allowed me to open in izip, and I was able to transfer the files from there to iBooks easily. I did the same on the kindle fire to compare. The SCM verse packs show up in my esfile explorer download folder on the fire and allowed me to open each file in adobe reader ( which I chose) or on the amazon kindle icon. So to answer your original inquiry, the SCM downloads are easy to use now that I have all the apps and instructions needed.
