Looking for books for my 8 yod boy to read to himself. The Step into Reading books are too easy and most chapter books seem to be a bit overwhelming for him. He likes Nate the Great and that seems to be a good level for him at this time. He really likes anything about cowboys and Indians (fiction or non-fiction) or animals. Would love some suggestions! Everything I check into seems to be a bit too hard still (or way to easy).

    Thank you!

Books by Clyde Robert Bulla might be good.

You can find Sonlight grade 2 & 3 readers at your library and are short chapter books for beginners.  Grade 2 lists Nate the Great, Arnold Lobel, Bulla and more.  We did not read Third Grade Detectives though.

Thank you! I so much appreciate the responses. We’ve done a lot of Bulla (they are just right), Arnold Lobel, Billy and Blaze series and I’ve used the Sonlight lists (the ones that are easy enough and I’ve ordered many of them that I’m reserving until he is ready). I’ll check into Thornton Burgess.

My son reads ALOT! He does read the same books over and over but I’m having trouble finding enough books. Was hoping someone knew of a series that I had overlooked! TY!

My 7 year old is reading The Littles, Paddington Bear, The Mouse and the Motorcycle,  and I am going to have him read My Father’s Dragon series as well.

Discovery Biographies and Childhood of Famous Americans books come to mind.
