A new series (still being written) — the Incorrigibles by Mary Rose Wood. It’s hilarious and I’m pretty sure the main character, a governess, is a CM educator.
Second choice is David Copperfield.
connollyhomeschoolParticipantI have to say Little Women–can’t help it. I’ve got four DD, and I have loved this book ever since I was young. I practice reading the chapter where Beth dies to try and keep it together though 🙂 I’m not very emotional either, but that does it to me every time!
I, too, had not heard of The Chestry Oak–hello Amazon cart! Thanks for that recommendation ladies.
I must second the recommendation of Understood Betsy. Loved reading that one to my girls!
AngelinaParticipantLittle Lord Fauntleroy was the first one that came to mind when I came across this thread. Though, after reading all the replies, I could have chosen any of the above!
waynesweakervesselParticipantAll time favorite for a family read-a-loud is Miracles on Maple Hill.
Having said that, I absolutely would NOT miss A Lantern in Her Hand as a read-a-loud with my highschoolers!
AmyParticipantTough one, but for MS-HS age I would say Ourselves by Charlotte Mason (My kids and I have learned so much from this book, love it!!!)
Younger crowd: Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends or any of the series: The Millers
These two books has helped my kids develop great character and these would be at the top of my list. 🙂
KristenParticipantThe ONE book I want to make sure I read to my kids this year is Little Britches but if it was one book ever I think I would pick Pilgrims Progress.
marmiemamaParticipantMine is Mountain Born by Elizabeth Yates. Such sweet love and devotion from a little boy…and there’s sheep…what more could you want? 😉
andreamParticipantTreasures in the Snow by Patricis St. John
Psalm31ParticipantGrandma’s Attic Series
Little Pilgrims Progress
AmberParticipantLittle House in the Big Woods
kimberlymorris5ParticipantI agree that there are too many favorites for me!! I guess this year I will have to say
Sarah Plain and Tall
Little House Series
