I am starting My Side of the Mountain with my 8 year old because I loved it so much when I read it as a child. Chapter one was so descriptive and it is in story form. I was wondering if this is a living book and also why I have not seen it metioned anywhere? I can’t remember if there is any objectionable material in it.

Yes, it’s a living book. It has been read through a few times here. Maybe it’s been too long, but I never quite got the part about why he left home and that was an okay thing. Maybe you can remind me now :-).

Definitely a living book. We love Jean Craighead George here, although some of her books definitely tread the line of having characters in inappropriate situations. The “My Side of the Mountain” set (there are two more associated books) are our favorites. I’m sure they’ve been mentioned on here somewhere. 🙂 I know I’ve mentioned the author’s name in discussions of books boys like.
