    Hi everyone!

Is there anyone here who uses MFW as their core and interweaves some of SCM curriculum/resources?

We are headed into our 4th year with MFW, and I love the structure it gives my family. I have just recently stumbled across SCM, and am having trouble deciding what to add, where to add, what to toss of MFW, etc.

I just thought I would see if anyone had insight to offer. Blogs to point me to. Anything, really.

    Thank you.

I used to use MFW but I felt it was more of a master to me than a servant.  SCM lets  me focus on the student not the check boxes.  I personally don’t see how you would combine them.

We have used MFW almost exclusively with SCM resources tied in. I actually like the structure and the check boxes, but want a more CM education for my kids. Remember that you can provide a CM style education with any resource you have, it all depends on how you use it. For me MFW gives me the framework I am not confident enough to pull together myself. The way I use it may not be the way that works for someone else but here it goes. I use the TM as written mostly, but we almost never get through one manual  in one year. We do the MFW lesson plans as read aloud family resources, skipping stuff we dont care for (we skipped all the Streams of Civilization readings since my kids were lower elementary at the time). We do the student sheets if they appeal to us if not we skip. I assign idependent grade level history reading using either SCM lists or the MFW book basket suggestions, or All Through the Ages. I add in artist study by getting resources from my library about a particular artist. We try to follow CM guidelines for artist study and have purchased and loved the SCM Artist series, but when budget is tight we use the library. We do the MFW composer study. I add poetry. For math and language arts I do not use the MFW recommendations. Mainly I would suggest just being the master of your curriculum. I think MFW can definitely be compatible with CM methods. I also ask for narrations with most history readings. We have also used different science than recommended since I dont love Apologia elementary.  Not sure if I helped or just rattled on.  If there is something specific I can try to answer. MFW has a user board you can maybe post on, otherwise I dont know of  any “MFW but more CM” blogs.
