Okay, I’ve got some more questions today.  I’m just full of questions, but I’m not surprised because I am getting down to the “nitty gritty” and I’ve got to get some things ironed out.

1.)  Has anybody used D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths alongside/with Module 2?  With a second grader?  Did you just look to see if it had a story about a particular myth and add it in?

I confess that I am going to be learning ALL of this along with my DS7 this year because I am quite sure that I never learned ANYTHING about Greece, Greek myths, etc.  I’m not even sure what IS a myth and which of these stories actually happened.

2.)  Next question has to do with the Module 2 handbook and the fact that I got the wrong Famous Men of Grece book, apparently.  Just a quick look at the first day using “Famous Men of Greece” and I already can’t line up the one that I got with the one that is referenced to in the handbook.  Has anyone ever written down the page numbers or some other way of using the Memoria Press edition?  Please help?!

I don’t know the answer to your question, but wanted to tell you I am learning about this along with my children this year as well. I know next to nothing about Greek history. lol

1.) I would be hesitant to spend too much time going into all the Greek mythological stories with a 7 year old. My personal preference is to use these younger years to lay the foundation of truth, then the children can read a little more about the myths when they are older. Just my $0.02 worth.

2.) I just looked at the sample first pages of the Memoria Press version on Amazon, and it looks like that one doesn’t give the overview that the Greenleaf version has in the Gods of the Greeks chapter. So you could just introduce the idea that the Greeks worshiped false gods whom they imagined to be in the likeness of men. Discuss the difference between a myth and a legend. Then start in with the legend of Hercules.

Ok, this is probably silly – but what is the difference between a myth and a legend?

It looks like the version at Heritage History doesn’t have that overview either….
