Many of you have mentioned that all your memorization/recitation goes into your box and I would like to start adding in other things as well as what we have started with. (Luther’s Small Catechism) Poetry and math facts being top on my list. If you have all these things mixed in, do you still keep only one card in the daily through weekday tabs? So you have either a scripture verse or a poem in there and leave the multiple cards for the days of month? Or would it be overload to limit each of those tabs to one scripture verse, one poem, and one math card? They would move back independantly of course but since dd7 only has 2 poems done from last year and is just working on her third they could be in the odd/even tabs with the new one in daily along with our scriptures instead of being relegated to review only once a month. Is that too much for a young child to handle? Her and ds3 both enjoy it now and I don’t want to ruin that. (Although math facts seem to ruin everything! LOL)
sherazParticipantI personally just keep one memorization card of all types in each division. So 1 poem, 1 scripture, 1 math memory card, 1 ASL review card, 1 Shakespeare…and they move back as individuals. We may work on a scripture for a week or a poem for three weeks, etc.
KarenParticipantHow do you keep your memory time from turning into 15 minutes? Or maybe 15 minutes is okay??? I find that sometimes we’re impatient to be done with our memory time (and it’s only 1 hymn and 4 Bible passages or verses).
sherazParticipantSince we are not doing the same passage over and over for 15 minutes, it does not get tiresome.
We simply sing our hymn once per day.
I keep memory work in seperate boxes (which takes up more space) but signals that we are doing seperate subjects. And if I rotate our hands-on memory work reviews (ASL, Math) with the straight memory (bible) to the more dramatic or silly (Shakespeare, poetry) it doesn’t feel long.
Since that 15 minutes covers several subjects and we try to enjoy it, it doesn’t seem long! And I love how many things I can mark off on our check-off list, lol.
eawernerParticipantThank you! For some reason it’s nice to get the “ok” from someone else. LOL
