I have CLP Story of the Middle Ages. I was thinking about getting SCM Middle Ages guide. Would using CLP be okay to use along with it, or is that overkill? I will use the other books with SCM.

There are only 12 chapters.  We used about half of them where appropriate.  We skipped some of the Famous Men stories in SCM.  I think it is okay to add it in as a spine or summary to tie things in together, without being too much.

Wings2fly – Thanks. Although my daughter is older, because of her difficulties in processing, I’m not sure how much I will use the Famous Men books. Too much information confuses her. The living historical fiction books work better for her. The CLP book seems to be written in a way that I think she can grasp the basic information. I think I can balance out the two.

We actually substituted that exact book for the Famous Men books when we used that guide. I had my middle schooler read it independently and do written narrations from it. It worked well for us along with most of the other books scheduled in the guide.

That’s good to know, Keri. I had Famous Men of Greece that I was going to use with that time period. After looking at it, I decided against it. I know I would have lost her. I’ve had uncertainty about those books for her, not because the books aren’t good, but because the content would be too much for her to grasp. But, I really would like to use the SCM history schedule. I tried MOH for ancients and that was a little much. SCM looks like a better fit, and many of the titles are books I was wanting to use, especially the Louise Vernon books. But, substituting CLP for Famous Men sounds like a good idea.
