Middle Ages History, independent?

Hi, I have an upcoming 7th grader who will be using SCM’s history for the first time. She desires to be independent as much as possible because doing so as she has grown older helps her to concentrate. Can SCM’s history be used independently by a 7th grader? I am aware that she will need to do  narrations, both oral and written.

    Thanks! 🙂

I think that would work well. The only thing is you might have to adjust the family books a bit if the reading becomes too much just for her. I read the family readings and my daughter did the assigned independent reading and it worked well, I don’t see why some students could not just do all the reading selections.

Thank you so much for your input. I just spoke with my daughter and she agrees that I’d do the family reading with her but she’d do the rest herself. She wants to be independent but does enjoy some read alouds together. Thanks again!

That is actually what SCM guides suggest. Once student reaches 4th grade doing independent reading as scheduled along side family reading. That is one of our favorite parts of the SCM guides. It keeps us together while growing independence. The guide will let you and her know exactly what to read each day. 🙂
