Has anyone used Window on the World for a cultures study without doing ECC? If so, how did you use it? What other books did you use with it? I am getting this book, but I am not planning on doing ECC, mainly because of cost. I have SCM Middle Ages guide and had planned to that this fall. But, MFW recommends doing ECC before world history, so I can’t make up my mind which I want to do first. My daughter will be in 8th grade, so we will not be coming back to ancients. She is not working at grade level, so I could do cultures in high school for credit. But, is it really more beneficial to do the cultures before beginning Middle Ages? Sometimes I think it would be fun to do ECC, but because of cost, I would wait until high school to use it. I just can’t decide. Any suggestions/recommendations?

I know SCM covers geography and some culture on the specific time period in each guide. I think I will just continue with the Middle Ages and include some extra cultural books. A specific world cultures study can be done at any time. I would still like to hear if anyone has used Window on the World independently and how it was used, as apart from other history, or incorporated into the history being studied. It is used to encourage prayer for other people groups, so maybe it is added as a Bible time resource.

We did ECC our first year of homeschool (that was 7 years ago), but if I remember right, it was more incorporated as a tool to learn about other cultures and then pray for them each week.

I look on eBay for mfw curriculum. I know I have seen ECC priced really reasonably. You could try looking there. You could get the manual and only some of the books. If you get the first edition it has the student sheets in the back of the TM

Thanks for the replies. After looking at ECC in more detail, I think I will hold off and go with my original plan to do SCM Middle Ages and decide where to head from there. Next year, I may just use Window on the World and add some other books for some cultural study and a little geography. I know some plan everything out far in advance, but with us, things change a lot because of my daughter’s special needs. Plus, I don’t know how long it will take us to get through a SCM guide. I know we won’t finish the Middle Ages guide in one year. Since my daughter does not do much independent reading, due to dyslexia, I will probably schedule extra days in, just to let her read some easier library books on topic. I just have to stop looking so far ahead and focus on what we are doing now:)
