Okay I’m trying to spend my birthday amazon giftcard. I’m not set on getting all (or any?) John Steinbeck (whom I asked about on an earlier thread). Have any of you read Hemingway? Would you recomnend any of his works? If not, who would you recommend (for pure pleasure reading)?
Thanks again!
Dana
missingtheshireMemberI love Hemingway and I also enjoyed Steinbeck – I really enjoyed The Sun Also Rises and For Whom the Bell Tolls, and I also enjoyed The Old Man and the Sea and A Farewell to Arms – so as you can see I like his style. I enjoyed The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck. I read a lot of Leo Tolstoy for pleasure reading, I especially enjoyed Anna Karenina and I love all Charles Dickens. I recently finished Les Miserable by Victor Hugo and that was excellent. I enjoyed The Far Pavilians by MM Kaye, The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas and I especially enjoy George Elliott novels – my favourite being Middlemarch.
Hope you find something to spend the card on – there are always too many books and not enough time for me, lol. Linda
dmccall3ParticipantThanks! Les Miserables is one of my all time favorites! A lot of the ones you listed are free for kindle so hooray – I can have those then buy a Steinbeck and a Hemngway… That’s one plan. Hmmm… Too many books to choose from I tell you! 🙂
