Math everyday?

I just wondered if most people do math everyday? We have been, and it seems like it would be a good idea because it’s something that always needs reviewing to stay in their minds. However, with more than one child needing one on one attention, it’s pretty time consuming(especially if they didn’t understand the lesson as quickly as I thought they might) and I find us not having enough time for other things we scheduled, like science or geography. I appreciate your thoughts on how you schedule math(and the frequency of any other subjects too). Thanks!
We do Math 3-4 days a week depending on what is needed. Usually, I teach lesson/new concept on Monday, do worksheets on Tuesday & Wednesday, review on Thursday, and then more on Friday if needed.
Some days when we just can’t do a math lesson, we just use the MathUSee math drill page on their website–or you can use the worksheet generator to print out a worksheet that you don’t have to work to make. Or I have one child do that while I work with another and then they trade.
We just started hs this year w/ a K year, so its been a learning curve! I don’t know if this would apply to your situation, but I recently decided to only do a formal lesson 3x a week and then he “earns” computer time doing a computer math game. He likes it and I like it because I can do other stuff while he’s playing. I was stressing trying to do math 5x a week.
If you are up to computer learning – Khan Academy has free Math. There are videos, and there is an online program where the kids work on problems… when they get 10 right in a row, it will suggest the next lesson(s)…
I use MEP…. but when I can’t get to math, I send them to Khan Academy for practice….
We do math (almost) daily. Sometimes we skip Mondays, but we are trying to move away from the idea that just because it’s Monday, means it has to be a ‘crazy’ day.
One thing that has helped our family with math, is that it’s Dad’s subject to teach. We use MathUSee. He will sit down with them in the evening (usually Sunday) and watch the video, he’ll make sure they ‘get it,’ they work on the lesson throughout the week, he grades the lesson, they will correct mistakes (no grading), and as long as they’ve done well, they will take the test the next day. He does grade the test, and it’s very unusual that it’s not an A or B equivalent. (our entire family LOVES, LOVES MathUSee!)
*I have 4 schooling students, and they are all different in their math abilities, but it still takes each of them about a week to get through an entire lesson.
**We do Bible, Math, Language Arts, and History daily. Everything else is just a few times a week.
My dd (9) does her TT math Mon.-Thurs., working the problems out in the book first. I check her work and we go over any she got wrong, then she does the corresponding computer Lesson; then on Fri. she does Math Mammoth’s clock practice course.
My son (10) does his Developmental Mathematics Mon.- Thurs., some of it oral by splitting up the multitude of practice problems; then on Fri. he does Math Mammoth’s Measuring course.
Math takes between 15-25 min. daily for each of them. The majority of which is completely independant.

Question for those of you who do a single lesson per week: How do you get through the book??? LOL
Seriously, though, if there are roughly 160 lessons in the math book, how do you get through it? We use BJU, so maybe it’s different. I’m just curious how much time you spend working on it each time. Right now, I have 2, doing BJU 1 & 2, and we do 3 separate 10 or 15 min. sessions each day (depending on age & attention span of each child). I do each child separately for math, as well, because it’s still so one-on-one with my older not able to follow the lessons quite yet by herself. Very rarely does my older dd get it fast enough that we can skip one session. As a side note, 1 of those sessions is spent with addition flash cards.
