I am looking for a world map and a US map that can both serve as decorations (in our front room that we use as the classroom) and is accurate. Any suggestions for where to look?

This is the one we have in our dining room and love.  http://www.amazon.com/World-Executive-Map-Available-Enlarged/dp/B002HNRV4G/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1391633974&sr=8-6&keywords=world+map+antique+style  it was our first and possibly only decorating purchase after moving.  Ours is 48×73 inches and dominates the whole wall behind our table.  We “framed”it with 1×4’s.

I have the one anniepeter linked to above.  It was on the sale rack at my local bookstore, mounted on a frameless hardboard…looks lovely.  I have maps EVERYWHERE in our house, it’s getting quite funny actually (but very handy because whenever we have a conversation that mentions a location, we just glance up somewhere and usually there is a map 🙂 )  But the one linked above is the prettiest, for sure.  Anyway, to your question on whether this one (linked above) is accurate, I’m not certain of this…I would be curious to find out.   The proportions just seem to look a little different on this map than on all of my others.  Maybe it’s just that the angle/zoom is a bit further and so your eye has to reach a bit to see each country.  Europe in particular seems quite squished up at the top and it’s hard for us to reference the European countries properly, so we tend to be gravitating to our other maps whenever we want to look at something more closely.

It IS a lovely looking map though and we do enjoy having it in the main part of our home to point to something in general or just bird’s eye glance.  It could work for your purposes since it is nice and decorative, but for daily school work you just might also need/want something more detailed or with closer up view. (even giving each child his own foldable or deskmat map could be fine)

    Hope this helps!

I have seen this one in person and it is very nice, but it states that it is not meant for educational purposes. I can’t tell you why that is…. The family that was using this one, had it hanging in a hall way and they were placing little red pins to mark all the places they had been. HTH
