Was that the new online Well Planned Day planner that you tried? It’s still in beta so I wouldn’t expect them to have all the bugs worked out yet. It’s really hard to do a huge software project well so I have some sympathy for them in the difficulties.

That’s one of the reasons we chose to focus on doing one thing, and doing that well. The CM Organizer will not likely ever be a planner or record keeper for all of your life. We intentionally focus on solving the problems faced by CM (and other literature based) homeschoolers and leave out all the other clutter.

The CM Organizer was built to be what we wished existed when we couldn’t find anything that fit our own needs. It’s expanded to have a few more features and become more streamlined, but we’re still just as passionate about what we leave out as what we put in. As far as we know, it’s the only planner and record keeper built specifically for the CM style of education.

SCM, if you ever figure out a way to make this into an app so that it is available even when I don’t have internet service, I would be in heaven!

We don’t see the CM Organizer likely heading in that direction. In fact, we’re working on adding even more features that depend on the internet for community sharing of resources and such. At the same time, internet access is becoming more ubiquitous so there will be fewer and fewer places where you can’t get a connection.

Have you ever heard that famous quote by hockey player Wayne Gretzky? He said, “A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.”

That kind of forward thinking is what drove us to make the CM Organizer an online service rather than an installable app. We’ve been very happy with that decision and we’re looking forward to how it continues to play out in the years to come.

Yes, it is the Well Planned Day planner.  I do agree and sympathize that it is a huge project!  However, I feel kind of mislead since it was supposed to be launched in 1.0 stage by August, and is still in Beta in September.  I was fortunate enough to get in when it was still $40/year, but they are currently charging full price now and I don’t think that is right.  Many of us purchased thinking it would be ready in time for our school year to start, so we went ahead and bought on faith that it would be.  Our school year started September 3rd (specifically waited until then hoping the planner would be ready), and we still have to use our paper day runner.

I admit, I was excited, and I jumped on it when I should have been more cautious.  The old saying “if it seems to good to be true, it probably is” comes to mind.  I first heard about this planner back in February/March and anxiously waited for it, finally caving in late July to temptation.  I must learn to be more patient!  🙂

I like your philosophy of doing one thing and doing it well, and I will keep that in mind next year.  Maybe I’ll get another 30 day trial and see how I like it now compared to the WPD.

Once it is doing what it should do, I think the WPD planner will be amazing.  I just wish I knew when that might be.

So what parts of WPD attracted you the most? (Always good to hear what people like.)
