  • Hi! Has anyone used the Charlotte Mason Living books curriculum? Its basically laid out by grade and provides a teachers guide- They also provide all the books you will need for the year. It structures Charlotte Mason out. Here is the site. I’d love to hear reviews before I purchase.

Hi, I’ve never used the entire curriculum but have found the books elsewhere  or purchased some individually and used many of them. I think it is a wonderful site and resource, especially if you can afford the entire planned curriculum packages. I can see how they could be beneficial and take away a lot of planning, and it seems to stick to the CM methods well with its resource choices for each grade.

I used it the very first year I homeschooled. Grade 1 was the year I used. It was what I found just before I found the website SCM. I found the SCM site so helpful, and the confidence to make my own curriculum, that I didn’t need to use LBC the next year. The one part of LBC that was too much for me was trying to do American(I read Canadian books instead because I live in Canada ) and World History in the same year. I love SCM history modules better. The LBC manual can help you figure out how to do a CM education until you are more confident I suppose. Most of the LBC books are living. They used a lot of Usbourne books though for science which I find more of a resource type of book not an actual living conversational type of book like Apologia or Jack’s Insects for example. I ended up not always being able to keep up in my schedule of LBC that I got behind and somewhat discouraged. So in the end I never finished completely everything and just started afresh by making my own education which I could keep up with and change when it didn’t work for me. It is cheaper to make your own curriculum then a pre boxed one. So those are my thoughts. Everyone is different in their needs. If you choose to try LBC just don’t feel you have to be rigid in finishing everything.

    Kim.
