We are going to be doing SCM Genesis – Deuteronomy; Ancient Egypt this year. I will have a 5th grader and 8th grader. My 8th grader will be reading lit for his grade on his own. I would like to use several books as our enjoyable read alouds. I noticed there isn’t a particular module suggested for this history module. Can anyone suggest a particular module or several books that would be good for it?
Thanks
mommix3MemberI’m interested in this as well.

CindySParticipantHave you looked in the bookfinder? Two books that come to mind though, are The Cat of Bubastes, by Henty, and Adam’s Kin, by Beechik. Adam’s Kin may work better as a real aloud.
ebcsmomParticipantbump
HeidiSParticipantMY kids read Boy of the Pyramids and the Golden Goblet. An 8th grader could do Golden Goblet on his own..it was a good story! Also we read a few books from Bethlehem books. They didn’t fit exactly the timeline but close. One was God King and the other I think, Hittite Warrior. Both good reads!
ebcsmomParticipantThank you so much! I am looking for good reads for my 7 and 9 year olds for Mod 1 I will look into those for sure!
sherazParticipantWe enjoyed “Once Upon A Time in Egypt” by Francis Kent Gere. It was excellent. it was printed in 1937, so it is OOP, but if your library has it, read it. =)
botanicalbeckyMemberI have a list, but just posted a very lengthy post and need to go for now – I will post later :).
botanicalbeckyMemberThis is from the recommended reading list in the back of Guerber’s Story of the Ancient World.
Gilgamesh the King by Ludmila Zeman, first in a trilogy. The other 2 titles are Revenge of Ishtar and The Last Quest of Gilgamesh
Shadow Hawk by Andre Norton. Historical fiction of Egyptian warriors serving Rasekenen, Kamosis, and Amosis as they battle the Hyksos for control of Egypt.
Escape from Egypt by Sonia Levitin. Historical fiction set during the Exodus from Egypt.
Hittite Warrior by Joanne Williamson. Historical fiction, Hititte refugee in CAnaan, Canaanite customs, religion; set during Canaanite war with Israel in the judgeship of Deborah.
God King is also by Joanne Williamson but the time period for this one is slightly beyond where Module 1 ends. It is set during the struggle between Hezekiah and sennacherib.
And I bought Pharoahs of Ancient Egypt, which is listed in the Mod 1 books, but I read it myself and thought it was really good. But I guess you wouldn’t classify it as literature per se.
botanicalbeckyMemberJust checked to make sure bc I thought I had seen it somewhere…. Hittite Warrior is listed as a book for 7th, 8th, and 9th for Module 2. Thought you might want to keep that in mind. 🙂
