Wht do you recommend for language arts for 7th grade? I’ve read a lot on Analytical grammar, and have decided not to use it. I think it will be too challenging and dry for my daughter. Plus, I need something that’s a little more independent because I have a baby due this summer, and 7 other children as well. We’ve tried Easy grammar, and I don’t care for it. I’ve been looking at LLATL and TLP, but am still having a hard time deciding what to use. I already have Writing with Skill on the shelf, and think I might use that if I don’t get an all in one program. My thoughts are all over the place, and I’ve been going back and forth, and not sure what to do! Are there any other language arts programs out there that I’m not thinking of? Any advice?
retrofamParticipantI like Jump In for writing. For grammar, we are trying IEW’s Fix it Grammar next year.
Reese23ParticipantI was looking at fix it grammar. It does have great reviews. Maybe I’ll try that. Thanks
HollySParticipantEnglish Lessons Through Literature is fairly independent. My DD did level 5 for 7th grade.
Melanie32ParticipantWe didn’t use a writing program until 8th grade, at which point I ran my daughter through a quick program called hands on essays. Other than that, she continued written narrations.
We used a combination of Easy Grammar Plus and Step by Step grammar.
I am actually convinced that formal grammar is better held off until high school. My daughter now has the maturity and critical thinking skills to understand grammar so much better than she did in middle school. Learning a foreign language really helps with grammar comprehension and most students study a foreign language in high school. I think this is really helping to cement grammar concepts for my daughter.
